Hank's Surgery

 

Hank had a Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy this past Tuesday.  He's always had large tonsils & had issues with snoring.  His last major illness when we thought he had Mono was when the Dr. decided that it would benefit him to have them removed. 

 

I picked him up from his Dad on Monday night & Creag and I took him out for a little Pre-Surgery Ice Cream at UDF.  He wasn't too nervous and in the usual Hank spirits.  We kept him up until about 11:30PM & let him eat and drink whatever he wanted to because his surgery wasn't scheduled until 9:30 the next morning & he couldn't have anything to eat or drink after midnight, including water.  We popped some popcorn & cuddled on the couch until bedtime.  When I tucked him in, is when he started worrying a bit.  He asked how many nurses would be in the room.  When I told him maybe two, he started tearing up saying that he didn't want a lot of nurses.  I told him that we would ask in the morning how many would be in the room and I'm sure they would only do what he felt comfortable with.  He then said, Mom, I don't snore.  I never have!  He was trying to talk me into not making him have surgery by telling me the reasons he was having it weren't true.  I told him to not let anything worry him & everything would be ok, and then he went to sleep.

 

 

He woke up the next morning, ready to get this thing over with.  Creag gave him a very old "Lucky Silver Dollar" that was his Grandpas to hold onto up until his surgery.  We got to the Surgery Center @ 9AM and checked him in.  The nurses were very sweet & made him very comfortable.  They called us back at 9:30 and we sat there while they asked a few routine questions, and took his blood pressure.  They then gave us his cap, gown & booties to change into.  I took him into the changing room & when he was all dressed, he said "I'm not the lunch lady".  It was hilarious.  He then started singing "Lunch Lady Land" by Adam Sandler.  Never a dull moment I tell ya!!

 



 

 

After all of the excitement of his outfit died down, and we were waiting, I could see him getting a little nervous.  The movie, Horton Hears a Who is what was on the TV and that kept him occupied a little bit.  I on the other hand was so nervous and couldn't take my eyes off of my boy.  

 

 

They took him back a little bit after 10 and he gave me a hug and a kiss & they walked off, leaving us waiting....Creag went to get us a bite to eat since we hadn't eaten either & it was 10:30.  The Dr. came out to talk with us about 45 minutes later & said that the surgery went well.  She said one of his adenoids was REALLY large & as soon as she cut it out drainage just started coming down.  She said he definitely had a sinus infection and prescribed him antibiotics.  She informed us that we'd be able to see him as soon as he woke up.  He slept for about 45 minutes to an hr, then they came to get us.  We walked back to recovery and he looked so out of it.  The first thing he did was stuck out his tongue and said "Are they gone?"  Almost immediately after that, he started what sounded like snoring, but he had his eyes open!  Then he started clearing his throat.  Creag & I just looked at each other a little freaked out, wondering if it was normal.  He was in and out of sleep from there on out until we left.  It obviously was normal when you're doped up like he was.

 

After he was awake for about 10 minutes after his post surgery naps & he had changed and we were given instructions, we were able to take him home.  These last 3 days have been tough on him.  His recovery has been a little tougher than I thought it would be.  I'll be back to give details on the recovery on a later post, right now we're just thankful the surgery went well and he's on his way to a full recovery and a healthier lifestyle less tonsils & adenoids!!

Annual Boy's Trip

 

 

Creag & Hank left yesterday for Deer Creek State Park for an annual fishing trip that Creag's been doing for years.  It's a family trip & it's boys only.  Usually, he would go with his friend Matt's family, but last year, he tried to get more of his family to come along.  This year, it's combined with our family & Matt's with my Dad & Uncle even going tomorrow.  Creag decided that Hank was finally old enough to tag along & they were both pretty excited about it!  Creag got together a tackle box for him to have and even gave him a little pocket knife to keep in there.  For an 8 year old, that's a pretty big deal!  I got to talk to Hank yesterday and he was pumped that he caught "10 large mouths".  I told him how awesome it was that he caught that many bass & he said "No Mom, Large Mouths!  They're this really powerful fish!!"  He didn't realize that Large Mouths were Bass, so I just left it alone.  LOL  I got this picture a little bit ago from Creag & I just LOVE it.  I love it that Creag is such a great influence & role model for Hank and that they get to spend this "boy time" together.  I've been told "what happens at the lake, stays at the lake" which, I have to say is fine with me!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

 

Tuesday my work had 4 extra tickets to the Reds/Rockies Game, so I entered the drawing for them & won!  I was pretty excited because it was a beautiful day & we had nothing planned for the night.  Perfect, right?  I met Creag & Sammie at home after work and we had a quick bite to eat & then headed to the Stadium.  There's something about watching a game under the lights on a warm night in the Summer that I just love.

 

I wasn't a huge baseball fan before Creag & I started dating.  I guess you could say I married into it, because now it's one of my favorite things to do ;)  A ballpark hot dog or a slice of Larosa's Pizza with a beer is my kind of date night!  It also helps A LOT that the kids enjoy going too.  It's a funny thing now that Hank is so into watching Baseball & playing ball, that I find myself picturing him as a Major Leaguer.  While we were watching the game, I was wondering to myself if the players Mom's still get stressed out every time they're up to bat just like little league.  Because I'm telling you, when Hank steps up to the plate I get so nervous for him!  Every time, I swear I get knots in my stomach because I know how important it is for him to play well.  He doesn't like to strike out, and I tell him he can't hit it every time, but he still wants to.  And because he wants to, I want him too.  I'm his number one fan and he's so passionate about the game, I hope to see him go far!

Happy Birthday, Willis!
 

It's hard to believe that Willis will be 1 this Friday!  Cliché I know, but it seems like it was just yesterday that he was a chubby little newborn.  Last Sunday, Mica pulled off the cutest, Circus Themed Birthday party for the little guy.  They had it at Tyler's parents house & the details of it all were amazing!

 

 

 

Tyler's parents have a beautiful, oasis of a backyard.  The weather was so nice & the party was mostly outside so it was so relaxing, and I don't feel like I moved from my seat much of the party.  I didn't have my kids, so I was much more mellow & relaxed compared to what I usually am.  Chasing 4 kids around, I usually don't have a chance to sit so I definitely took advantage of it!  They had pony rides for the kids, just like Ellery's First Birthday Party and Sammie rode of course.  She also loved the clown noses that were on each table!  Along with the clown noses were the cutest Hydrangea Center Pieces that resembled Popcorn!  So pretty & such a great idea!

 

 

After everyone had eaten, it was time to sing Happy Birthday & watch him dig into his cute Elephant Cake.  He would just poke his finger at first & taste it and then he eventually dug in.  He was a little more into it than what I remember from Ellery!  

 

 

 

 Willis is such a happy, fun little boy.  He's so laid back & loving and I've really enjoyed every special moment that we've had with him this year!  Happy Birthday, little man.  We love you!!

Life Lately

 

Not too much has been going on the past couple of weeks.  Schools out and Soccer & Baseball are wrapping up so here & there, we've been getting small projects done around the house and marked off of our list.  We got the plants in our flower bed in the front yard transplanted & looking the way we want them to & got material over the weekend to close off our deck in the back.  Creag got a little bit of it finished on Saturday evening while I mulched and then we took a break to go across the street for a bit.  We've also gotten one bid and are waiting on another to expand our driveway & add a patio in the back so we're excited to possibly get that done! 

 

In the busy extra-curricular activity world, Sammie had her last Soccer game the Saturday before last & Wyatt's last game was last Tuesday.  They were both excited to get their medals!  Poor Skylar didn't get one for some reason.  Her coach had mentioned a cookout so maybe she'll get it then?   

 

 

Select Soccer tryouts for Skylar have been cancelled due to lack of interest, so she'll be playing rec again this fall & Wyatt loved soccer this go around & did really well so I'm sure we'll be signing him up again.  Sammie has decided to take a break this fall & focus on Dance & possibly Gymnastics again.  We have a few months of not thinking about that, though.  Tonight's Hank's last baseball game before his fishing trip with Creag this weekend & his surgery so we're both looking forward to that!  Depending on how far his make-up games are scheduled out, he may miss the rest of the season.

 

 

We've also spent a little bit of time at the pool & hope to get there a lot more often this Summer!  It's been a little chilly & very rainy so far this Summer so hopefully this weekend while Hank & Creag are fishing, the rest of us can hang at the pool.  We'll keep our fingers crossed!

Preschool Graduation

 

Last Friday, Wyatt had Round One of his Preschool Graduations.  I say round One because we decided instead of sending him on to Kindergarten, that it'd be best for him to go through another year of Preschool.  He won't be 5 until September, we think it's probably best to wait.  I want him to be as ready as he can be before he starts the big K. 

 

The Graduation Ceremony was adorable, and I'm not going to lie, as soon as the kids walked into the Gym doing the Graduation March, I was fighting back tears!  I think with him being the baby of the family, these milestones are REALLY getting to me.  He's growing up fast, and unfortunately, I can't slow him down.  After they walked in, they went as a group and sat on a rug where they played us a slide show of the school year.  Wyatt kept looking over to Creag & I and just smiled so big.  He was so glad that we were there and we wouldn't have missed it for the world! 

 

 

After the slide show, the older class went to sit in a different area and Wyatt's class went through their typical school day for us.  They did the Pledge Of Allegiance, the Calendar & then they sang a few songs.  The Days of the Week and a song about the Months of the Year.  Wyatt's shy in front of an audience, so it surprised me that he sang along.  He stood there with his hands in his pockets & looked like such a little man:)

 

 

After their songs, it was time for them to get their diplomas!!!  With his hands still in his pockets, he walked over to his teacher to get his diploma.  I was so proud and again, fighting back tears!  He gave his teacher a shy little hug & then walked back over to his spot.

 

 

After that, his group took the spot where the big kids were sitting.  It was their turn to do their songs and get their diplomas.  At the end, all of the kids got together and did a dance together called the Tooty Tot.  It was hilarious!  At the conclusion of the Graduation, we had lunch together in the gym & then the kids swam for a bit.  I stuck around while he swam with his friends and then we got everything together to head home for the afternoon, just me & my graduate!

Memorial Day Weekend Recap

 

We spent the holiday weekend at The River and it was exactly what we needed.  A 3 day weekend spent with family & friends.  We fished, we got our boat in the water for the first time of the year, we grilled out, we cooked smores over a fire, the kids did the Tooty Tot, I could go on and on about everything we did, but I won't.  Instead, I'll just load this post up with lots & lots of photos.  Enjoy!
