HAWAII
Day 1/Waikiki
Well we're back from an amazing Anniversary trip. We spent 9 days in Hawaii and loved, loved loved every second of it. It was the most beautiful, laid back place I've ever been and I would absolutely love to go back again some day with the kiddos in tow. We took a million and 1 pictures, so I'm going to separate this trip into several different posts.
We woke up early Friday morning & headed to the Airport. Thankfully, Creag's Mom came to our house early to get the kids off to school. We got to the Airport with 30 seconds to spare at baggage check. I guess there's a law where you have to check your bags at least 45 minutes prior to departure that we had never heard of. We seriously cut it too close for comfort, but at least we made it!
We flew from CVG to Chicago where we had enough of a layover to enjoy some breakfast & a Bloody Mary! This Peanut Butter-Banana, Caramel Plantain Mullet was amazing. I'm glad Creag was willing to share:)
This is how he felt before the drinks!
We boarded our next flight, to Hawaii and the plane was enormous! It was nothing like we've ever been on before. We were a little too antsy to sleep, so we watched a few movies during the flight. One was Django which was very, very gory, but really good & the other was Dear John which was long overdue. I read the book probably 2 years ago and had been wanting to see it ever since. The movies & booze on the plane helped with the long flight and we landed in Hawaii around 3PM Hawaii time which was 9PM our time. We took a cab to our hotel & checked in. They upgraded us to an Ocean View room & the view from the balcony was awesome.
After sitting on the balcony for a bit, we decided to change and go walk around for awhile. There were lots of shops along the way and the foliage & flowers were just beautiful. I especially loved all of the yellow hibiscus'.
We finally made it down to Waikiki Beach and were in awe. There were quite a few people along the beach, but the color of the water was the bluest that I'd ever seen. We were finally in paradise and we just took it all in.
After our stroll, we were trying to find Duke's to grab some dinner but couldn't find it so we ended up at a little restaurant looking over the ocean called Moana Terrace. We ordered drinks and my cocktail came with a flower which I loved! For dinner, we ordered Seared Ahi Tuna & Fish Tacos. It was a very relaxing dinner by the ocean and the food was pretty good.
After dinner, we walked back down to the beach and realized that Duke's was just a little further up than we had walked before. Duke's was important to see because of Jimmy Buffett's song, Duke's on Sunday. They had a live band playing outside and a great atmosphere. Luckily, I was able to get a drink because I left my ID back at the hotel. Whoops. We decided to try the Hula Pie, and it did not disappoint.
After about an hour or so at Duke's, we couldn't handle anymore. We headed back to our room, pretty tired and worn out from the day. Tomorrow, I'll share what we did on day 2 in Honolulu!
