HAWAII
Day Two/Pearl Harbor

I'm finally back to recap Day #2 on the incredible Island of Oahu, Hawaii!  We woke up pretty early to another amazing view.  It was always pretty hazy in the morning, but still warm & beautiful.  It seemed as if the weather was always the same, morning, day and night and we loved it.  We got ready, and caught a cab to head over to Pearl Harbor.  It was one of our must do's on the list.  There weren't a whole lot of restaurants by our Hotel, so we had the cab driver stop at Starbucks for a quick latte & pastry.

We arrived at Pearl Harbor, with just a few hours to spend there.  We had a flight scheduled that afternoon to The Big Island.  We walked in & took it all in.  There were different booths that you could stop at to get different tickets for different tours & museums on the property.  The tour that we wanted to do was the one where they take you by boat accross the Harbor to the Monument that was built to honor all of the men who went down with the USS Arizona on that awful day, December 7th 1941.  We were almost unable to do it because the time they were giving out to tour was after we needed to leave to catch our flight.  Luckily, the guy working worked around it and gave us an earlier time.  We had about an hour before the tour to walk around the property.  Everything was so interesting & the scenery was absolutely stunning.  I'll go ahead & let the pictures do the talking.

The tour was so educational and a complete eye opener as to what exactly happened on that horrible day so long ago.  There was a movie that they had us watch before we got on the boat with actual footage from the day of the attack.  It was there in the theatre that it hit me how awful that must have been to live in that moment, with that fear.  The days after had to be devastating to everyone in this Country.  It made me very grateful that even though we as Americans see on the news and experience acts of terror & violence throughout our country from time to time, we are actually very safe in this country that we live in and I take great pride in that.  I also have so much admiration for our Military Men & Women who sacrifice so much to keep us safe.  I have to admit that there was not a dry eye in the theatre watching that movie.  It was unreal to be there and experience something that has so much history.  The boat took us across the Harbor and we were actually able to get out and walk through the Monument that sits over the USS Arizona in which you can still see in which several men are still entombed.  The ship was filled up the day before the attack with 900,000 gallons of oil, so you can actually see oil bubble to the surface of the water every few minutes.

We could've probably spent the entire day there, but unfortunately, we had to head back to get our things together and grab some lunch before we headed to the airport for our flight.  We stopped at a restaurant right by the hotel called Cheeseburger Waikiki.  It was a cool little spot that we definitely had wanted to check out so I'm glad we were able to fit it in.  The Tiki Theme was awesome & gave me some ideas for our back patio.  We ordered Bloody Mary's that were amazing & split a Breakfast Cheeseburger that was mouthwatering-ly good!

We reflected on Pearl Harbor and our time in Hawaii up to that point and then headed back to the room to get our luggage & headed to the airport for our next flight over to The Big Island!!  I'll be back on Monday to tell you all about it!
