HAWAII
Day Two-Part Two/The Big Island
Day Two-Part Two/The Big Island
After about a 40 minute flight on an Island Hopper through the Hawaiian Airlines, we arrived at a small outdoor airport on the Big Island where we finally got leighed! I didn't realize that right when you step foot in Hawaii, you do not receive a leigh. Who would've thought that only happened in the movies? Fortunately, I have a pretty amazing husband who knew I'd love it so he paid a little extra for us to get one when we landed! There was a lady holding a sign up w/ our last name, holding two beautiful leigh's made of real Orchids and they were beautiful!
After we got our luggage, we headed over to pick up our rental. A white Jeep Wrangler, which is my dream vehicle! I'm telling you, Creag thought of everything when he secretly planned all of this without me! We took the top down off of the Jeep & headed off. We were amazed at the views along the drive. There were Lava Fields everywhere. No grass, what so ever. It was like being in a different world! No place like we'd ever seen before. Creag asked "What are we, on the moon?" It sure felt like it, until we could see the ocean on our left. I'm pretty sure our jaws dropped when we saw it. We had smiles on our faces that couldn't be wiped off for anything. We came up on a scenic viewing point that we pulled off to, got out of the car and just soaked it all in. It was absolutely gorgeous!
After that, we headed toward Waikoloa Village, where we were staying, but couldn't check in for awhile so we found a public beach & decided to check it out. Let me just say, I thought Waikiki Beach was beautiful....this beach was even more breathtaking. It was so laid back, less touristy and my kind of place. The natural lava rock & clear water was amazing.
We stayed at the beach and relaxed for an hour or two. I picked up a few shells here and there and just couldn't believe that we were there. We felt like we had already seen so much in just the short time we had spent there and couldn't believe that we had so many more days left in paradise, just the two of us. When it was time, we left & headed to The Bay Club to check in. After settling into our room, we got ready & headed over to the pool.
The weather was perfect. We spent the rest of our evening there, just relaxing. We had dinner from the pool bar & one too many Mai Tai's. They kicked my butt, so we had no choice but to call it an early night! We got up early the next morning, packed our bags, with no destination in mind, just driving. I'll tell you more about that, tomorrow!
